"Let every nation know, whether it wishes us well or ill, that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe to assure the survival and the success of liberty." … John F. Kennedy
The current presidential campaign illustrates liberals lack an appreciation for the history of Memorial Day. Lost on liberals is the sacrifice millions of souls have made so the likes of Michelle Obama has the freedom to express she was not proud of her country until B. Hussein Obama’s presidential candidacy. The freedom of Obama’s pastor, the Reverend Wright, to refer to his country as the US”KKK”A and proclaim God Dam America! Lost on Obama is the fact that these lost souls included “bitter American’s clinging to their guns and bibles”.
According to Michelle Obama, America has lost its soul, in truth America as lost millions of souls providing her the freedom to pursue her elitist status. Reflecting on the sacrificed souls on this Memorial Day, the article written in the Vonfrederick Newsletter, Feb. 1, 2007, “What Price Freedom” comes to mind. The following is some excerpts from that article.
Liberals advocate “negotiations” or “appeasement”, believing Islamic Fascist will see their compassion, their desire and willingness to live in peace and end their aggression. One has to wonder in what universe they reside. The party of JFK has been hijacked by egotistical Liberals who follow the delusions of Liberalism while seeing themselves as heroes of freedom.
The heroes of freedom are not politicians who protect by legislation or Hollywood leftist who defeat our enemies in two hour movies. The freedoms we enjoy today were secured with the blood of a proud tradition of Americans willing to fight tyranny… These brave souls answered the call and volunteered to give the ultimate sacrifice to provide security and liberty for Americans...
In the Revolutionary War about 33,000 gave their lives for the creation of our great country. In the War Between the States over 558,000 gave their lives to preserve the Union and ultimately end slavery. During World War II over 407,000 Americans gave their lives to prevent the tyranny of Nazism and Japanese Imperialism, 90,000 alone in the Battle of the Bulge, Christmas 1944. In the Vietnam War over 58,000 Americans gave their lives defeating the Communist only to have liberal politicians surrender, resulting in tyranny and the murder of millions.
Over a million Americans have given the ultimate sacrifice to preserve our freedom and liberty for others. British Prime Minister Tony Blair noted, “Only two defining forces have ever offered to die for you: 1. Jesus Christ 2. The American G. I. One died for your soul, the other for your freedom.” Can it be said any better?
Today liberty is facing extinction from internal and external forces. During the last fifty years Liberal academia, politicians and media have used the freedoms earned by others to re-write history and misinform society to meet a political agenda... What is lost to Liberals is attacks on freedom by ideologies that oppose it are relentless; the cost of freedom is great; and we must “bear any burden” to ensure its survival.
Yet, the Memorial Day speeches given by President Bush and B. Hussein Obama reflect the differences between “bitter Americans” and “entitlement” liberals. While President Bush is not a great orator, he gave a heart-felt speech due to his appreciation of the history of the great American experiment and the sacrifices of those who perpetuate it. Contrast the great liberal orator “Neville” Obama’s speech which was a political photo op with another gaffe brought on by historical ignorance, a lack of appreciation for those souls who gave the ultimate sacrifice, and his belief in the teachings of Karl Marx and not in American traditions. Lost on Obama and his liberal comrades is that “Freedom” is not achieved by appeasement, but by the sacrifice of those we pay homage to on each Memorial Day.

Recently, China has been trying to restore its “virginity” on human rights and democracy because of the looming Olympic Games that are going to be held there.
The attention-deficient occident vaguely remembered something about safran-robed monks and oppression in Tibet and there were a couple of pushes to boycott the openings of these Games that are heavily sponsored and backed by western companies that have outsourced their manufacturing there. They literally took the work to the slave labor because slavery has been abolished on our shores…way to go!
But remember: China must look good and respectable!
The boycott started with the attacks on the Olympic torch that was eventually targeted, stolen, blown off, and re-routed wherever it showed!
Anyways, China is still China and most of the country is rural and undeveloped, forgotten by the “industrial revolution” that has blessed a few places there. The country is also communist, secretive and belligerent. Finally, China is also a local bully with little democratic values and armed with the power to block the UN for it has been given the veto rights of the members of the General Assembly. In a nutshell, China does not care about political lobbying, tree huggers, chanting peaceniks or any other free speech advocate.
But China needs the Olympics to refurbish its tainted blazon and in order to do so, the Chinese government has bowed to the international pressure and started “talks” with Tibetan representatives….who cares anyways! In Asia, everything is long term and the repressions can resume once the Games are over, right? Actually the Maoist rebels have finally taken the power in Tibet. They have abolished the monarchy, kicked the king out, fully embraced the massive infusion of Chinese national to replace the local population, and are pushing for some sort of constitution while their “storm troopers” enforce and protect the new democratic values of the new communist dictatorship
In the meantime, China has also been proven guilty of bad judgment by supporting corrupt and extreme governments in order to secure oil and gas resources. And I won’t even mention North Korea!
It took a Genocide in Africa and a recent Asian hurricane and human tragedy to expose more of the Chinese government’s self serving lack of compassion.
We have already talked about Darfur and an ongoing genocide in this newsletter. Not only is China the preferred customer for the oil of Darfur, but China is also providing all the necessary military hardware to Khartoum, the capital, so the country – and its oil- can be secured. Is China indirectly arming the genocidal arms of the Arab militia called the Janjaweed? You bet, and as a result, about 1600 villages that have been burnt, looted, population displaced, raped, and slaughtered. 200.000 dead, 150 to 200.000 refugees in neighboring Chad and Central African Republic… this human tragedy has been happening under the Chinese watch for the past four years and we might want to add it to our list of grievances, just below the Tibetan mass repopulation drama.
Also recently, a massive earthquake hit China and brought the country to the fore of the news for the extent of the drama, the scope and quality of its humanitarian reaction, and the help provided by foreign nations. Forgotten is Tibet for now: China is mourning, and China is standing and fighting. China has become “decent” (decent to a point: the idea of Chinese surgeon teams wandering around the earthquake devastated area to “reverse” the sterilization of the couples that have lost their unique children in the tragedy is still kind of bothering me!)
But at the same time, China has also been exposed for its double standards when a devastating hurricane hit and ravaged the coats of what used to be Burma.
How convenient for China to accept and ask for more foreign help to cope with its own natural disaster, and deny dirt poor Myanmar the same things by defending the corrupt and inefficient military Junta’s position not to allow any help to go to the victims of the hurricane. According to Chinese officials, the world must respect the country’s decision to deny more help to the 2.5 million victims that are at high risk of more floods, diseases and hunger because “Myanmar” is a sovereign nation...under Chinese control! Myanmar is a backward military dictatorship similar to North Korea and has also conducted an active genocidal policy against its Karen minority. The country has been closed to world scrutiny for decades thanks to its Chinese big brother that regularly blocks the UN from investigating human rights abuses. Furthermore, it is also an ally of India in its fight against Indian insurgents hiding in the Burmese jungle. Finally, and most importantly, Myanmar’s junta has recently granted China the right to buy its natural gas and that also explains why China is not eager to see the Junta fall: more natural gas will diminish the Chinese dependency in expensive oil, and lower its energy bills! Is it worth ignoring the human tragedy, the shortcomings and inefficiency of the military junta? You bet! .
To summarize, China buys more than half of the Sudanese oil output and wants Sudan to access the underground crude reserves of a pacified Darfur, pacified by Muslim militias armed with Chinese weapons. China also wants to access the gas reserves of Myanmar and won’t interfere with the corrupt and inept Junta at the cost of hundreds of thousands of lives. That is China for you folks! Welcome to geopolitics one-o-one: Money talks, the torch runs and people die!
Nota: I wrote “China has also been proven guilty of bad judgment by supporting corrupt and extreme governments in order to secure oil and gas resources” and I already see among you people thinking that America is no better and that I could have written “America has also been proven guilty of bad judgment by supporting corrupt and extreme governments in order to secure oil and gas resources”. Here are our providers in order of importance: “The top five exporting countries accounted for 69 percent of United States crude oil imports in March while the top ten sources accounted for approximately 88 percent of all U.S. crude oil imports. The top sources of US crude oil imports for March were Canada (1.727 million barrels per day), Saudi Arabia (1.535 million barrels per day), Mexico (1.232 million barrels per day), Nigeria (1.138 million barrels per day), and Venezuela (0.858 million barrels per day). The rest of the top ten sources, in order, were Iraq (0.773 million barrels per day), Angola (0.375 million barrels per day), Algeria (0.232 million barrels per day), Ecuador (0.231 million barrels per day), and Brazil (0.188 million barrels per day).”
http://www.eia.doe.gov/pub/oil_gas/petroleum/data_publications/company_level_imports/current/import.html
The US needs oil….well let me rephrase it: you guys out there are energy guzzlers and we need to import oil anyways because you won’t let us pump our own. No democracy would ever survive the direct supporting of a genocide to secure or protect its energy sources (Iraq is not really paying off as far as oil goes, or for the Bush administration’s approval rating?!...and it is not even genocide!). If we were to get rid of all of our tainted sources for oil (or food, electronics….), we would be stuck with Canada and the UK because all the other countries still have a lot to learn about Democracy…and we would also be stuck with an Amish-like lifestyle! No more Hybrid car, Starbucks and other latte, American idol and credit cards…we would all become Amish and live happily ever after! China on the other hand can get away indirectly killing hundreds of thousands of people while you sleep at the helm, focused on your navel!

Industrial sabotage has been defined as the intentional disruption of productive capacity by any means. It has been described as a basic doctrine of terrorism and organized crime, and the threat of such must not be taken lightly. There are in the United States and Canada, a number of “front organizations” who are terrorism and “mafia” sponsored, and who, by skillful propaganda, are attempting to play down the threat. Our present day permissive and liberal society generates a favorable atmosphere for such propaganda and subsequent agony. Business owners and CEOs should be under no delusions in this regard. The terrorist and criminal threat to our society is just as great today as it was prior to 9/11, if not more so.
Saboteurs are classified into three broad categories:
1. Trained agents of an outside agency.
2. Disaffected employees.
3. Mentally deranged persons.
The trained agent of an outside agency will be from a hostile country, a power politically opposed to the United States, the representative of an unscrupulous business rival or, perhaps, in the case of labor disputes, the representatives of a rival labor union.
Disaffected employees cover a wider field and could include:
1. Victims of hostile propaganda including racism and other political subversions.
2. Those with a real or imagined grievance.
3. Those who consider that they have been unfairly dismissed.
4. Those who desire recognition or publicity.
5. Those who wish to conceal evidence of other crime, such as fraud or theft.
Mentally deranged persons may so act from a variety of causes, but the most usual will probably be the pyromaniac. These persons are sexual psychopaths who derive sexual pleasure from seeing a large fire. Such persons may be normal and intelligent in appearance and keep their peculiarity out of sight. In fact, this holds true for any class of saboteur. The only way to visualize the situation is to realize that the saboteur is probably the person one would least suspect of such an act. Sabotage is not confined to the poorer classes or to persons wearing turbans and carrying bombs. The saboteur may well be a member of management or other highly trained and intelligent persons. Therefore, preventive measures must never in any way, be relaxed.
A saboteur will always have a definite objective in mind. In a business or facility, the objective may include one or more of the following:
1. Damaging buildings and equipment.
2. Damaging power, communication, water and sanitation systems.
3. Tampering with testing devices.
4. Tampering with manufacturing information.
5. Polluting the air supply.
6. Creating conditions leading to accidents.
7. Damaging finished products.
8. Psychological sabotage.
9. Damaging computers.
10. Stealing/compromising intellectual propriety.
Within this general framework, the saboteur will select his/her target. Businesses and facilities vary widely and likely targets must be assessed by competent companies such as The VonFrederick Group. For the skilled saboteur, the targets will nearly always involve that where minimum effort will produce maximum damage. A few examples of these are:
1. Transformers at power stations.
2. Dies in machine shops.
3. Pumps at waterworks and water parks.
4. Condensers at steam plants.
5. Hard to replace equipment.
6. Special design equipment of a critical nature.
7. Devices capable of self destruction, such as certain types of machines, gasoline and explosive pumps.
8.
Computers/data bases with sensitive (financial/medical, etc) information.
It will therefore follow, that a list of potential targets can be developed for a particular business or facility and such targets must be specially protected.
The methods used to cause damage in a business place or facility, are only limited by the ingenuity of the saboteur. However, some of the more common sabotage techniques are listed for your awareness:
1.
Mechanical. Produced by breakage, failure to lubricate, insertion of abrasives, omission of parts, etc.
2. Chemical. Insertion of destructive chemicals to the product, business, or plant, or in the case of an explosives factory, the insertion of chemicals to make an explosive inert.
3. Explosives. Use of explosive devices to damage the business or facility, or its products.
4. Fire. May be started by a wide range of incendiary devices.
5. Electrical. Use of electric power sources to damage the business/facility or its products, or to interfere with communications.
6. Psychological. Inciting employee unrest, creating disaffection among employees, compromising employees for later blackmail, etc.
7. Subtle sabotage.
A wide range of acts which, if considered separately, would amount to little more than a nuisance, but, if considered collectively, amount to a serious disruption of the business/facility’s role. Such may include:
a. Slowdowns.
b. Passing defective parts on inspection.
c. Rejection of acceptable parts.
d. Tampering with control devices.
e. Leaving switches open when they should be closed and vice versa.
f. Falsification of records in minor detail.
g. Alteration of timing devices.
8. Bacteriological sabotage. Highly unlikely in peacetime, but in this age of crime, violence, and terrorism…very possible.
Includes contaminating food and water supplies, spreading disease germs, creating a poisonous atmosphere by interfering chemically with ventilation systems, etc.
This is not an exhaustive list, but will serve to indicate some of the possibilities.
The VonFrederick Group has helped many corporations and businesses protect their clients and employees from crime, violence, and terrorism resulting from acts of sabotage.

For democratic nations, the primary concerns in dealing with terrorism are to maintain and protect life, the liberties necessary to a vibrant democracy, and the unity of the society, the loss of which can turn a healthy and diverse nation into a seriously divided and violent one. Preserving these values and not simply destroying each manifestation of terrorism as it arises—is the real goal of a democratic society, and that accomplishing this goal requires a full survey of the strange and complicated border-land where terrorism exists. What is needed most is common sense.
In this regard, my statement is a response to those like former Prime Minister Benjamin Netenyahu who saw the goal of those dealing with terrorism as unitary—the destruction of a deeply evil activity and of those who practice it—and who see the primary means to that destruction as simply unleashing the security forces of a powerful state. We can preserve life without losing liberty or unity and without setting aside the law. I am constantly doing battle with my esteemed friend and teacher, Dr. Rawlins, over my philosophy of common sense and countering terrorism.
I work from the assumption that our stability, our security, and our capacity to meet terrorist threats effectively are all very great compared to the dangers we have faced and are likely to face. That will remain so as long as terrorism does not shift into a new dimension we have not faced: the use of weapons of mass destruction. So we can afford—we must afford—to preserve our liberties and our unity at the same time as we deal with threats to our security. For a great democratic nation, what is needed is a strategy, not unbridled anger.

The anger is hardly surprising. A recitation of the terrorist events in our recent history is a reminder of high drama and often tragedy that have seized the attention and fanned the fears of Americans in a way that little else can. In that sense, at least, terrorism is a central feature of contemporary history and contemporary awareness. To an extent, the concerns of Americans about their safety have involved activities from the Unabomber, the federal building in Oklahoma City, the World Trade Center, to threats against the Holland Tunnel and other sites in America, by militant Muslim fundamentalists.
The need for common sense is based on something less apparent than the amount of concern these events have generated and the vividness of the memories they leave. They are not instances of random violence. Behind them, there is a purpose. Terrorism is generally a calculated move in a political game. When the targets of one player, the terrorist group, are American citizens, it is generally because the terrorists intend to force the United States government into becoming the other player. The drama, the tragedy, the startling vividness of the memories—in short, the terror—are generally the calculated results of carefully selected steps intended to affect domestic or international policies. The effort may be to reduce the credibility of a government—as was done to the current Bush Administration, or to change particular policies, or to strengthen a rival movement. In each case, the objective is political.
Knowing this, why can’t we be just as calculating, cunning, and analytical? Why can’t we use common sense, coupled with a sound military strategy to circumvent another attack on America’s soil?

Rules for good living.
"Be sincere in your care for others. Hate everything that is evil and hold tight to everything that is good. Care for each other as brothers and sisters and honor others more than you do yourself. Never give up. Eagerly follow and serve where ever you may go. Let your hope make you glad. Be patient in time of trouble and never stop hoping for goodness. Felix Hoffman
Felix Hoffman
January 21, 1868 – February 8, 1946
Born in Ludwigsburg, Germany in 1868, Hoffman studied chemistry and pharmacy in Munich earning his doctoral degree. In 1897 while searching for a new way of making codeine his research produced a medical grade of heroine which was later marketed as a non-addictive substitute for morphine- and as a children’s cough syrup. His father’s arthritis inspired his work to find a substance to treat everyday pains. In the process he developed a stable form of acetylsalicylic acid which was marketed as Aspirin by Bayer. In 2002 he was posthumously inducted into the US National Inventors Hall of Fame.

How To Drive Through A Chemical Spill
-
Extinguish any cigarettes.
Many hazardous chemicals are highly combustible. If you are smoking, put the cigarette out completely in your ashtray. Make sure all embers are fully extinguished. Do not throw a lit cigarette out the window.
-
Turn off the air circulation systems.
Make sure the heat, air-conditioning, and all blower fans are off and vents are closed. These systems will bring contaminated outside air into the car.
-
Shut the windows.
Make sure all windows (and the sunroof, if you have one) are fully closed.
-
Cover your mouth.
Tie a handkerchief, cloth napkin, or bandana around your head so the fabric covers your nose and mouth. Do not wet the fabric beforehand: Some gasses and vapors are attracted to water and may combine with it to form dangerous and/or unstable compounds.
-
Monitor your speed.
In most cases, you should drive through chemical hazards at a moderate speed. However, when driving through a dry chemical spill, move extremely slowly (less than 15 mph) to avoid kicking up plumes of toxic dust.
-
Drive uphill and upwind of the spill site.
Once through the spill, continue driving away from it. Many dangerous gases are heavier than air and will tend to settle in low-lying areas. Get to a higher elevation immediately.
-
Abandon your car.
When you are uphill and upwind of the spill, at least half a mile away, and in an unpopulated and low-traffic area, leave your car, which is now contaminated. Use caution when getting out, and do not touch any external surface.
-
Run.
Proceed uphill and upwind of your car as quickly as possible. Do not crawl.
-
Inform authorities that your vehicle and possibly your person are contaminated.
BE
AWARE
-
It is always safer to turn around and drive away from a spill rather than through it. Do not drive through a spill unless you are instructed to do so, or have no other choice
-
HEPA and other microfilters used in the air circulation systems of some cars are not effective protection from toxic substances.

Eric, the reason we are engaging in trade with Columbia is because your president Bush is in bed with the FARC terrorists. It is a darn shame that we keep supporting terrorists and criminals in other parts of the world yet say that we are in a fight against terrorism. It is a good thing that Bush is leaving office soon.
Pat Oneil
Sussex, England
My good friend, Eric, you have missed the point here. America is doing what it can to help the poor and peasant class in Columbia with economic opportunities. If we did not do that, we would have had more drugs floating around on the streets of America. Think about it for a moment.
Raphael Gatewood
Bronx, NY
Dr. Rawlins, Cesare Lombroso was a racist and a misogynist as I am sure you are aware. To feed us with his filth is an insult to our intelligence. He blamed black male criminality on their African features and women criminality on Freud. PLEASE!!!
Dr. Ashley Morganstein
Tel Aviv, Israel
To answer your question, Dr. Rawlins, women do not commit as many violent crimes as men, but when they do, they go over the top and take the cheese. I am more afraid of “a woman’s scorn” than an angry man. However, the merging of roles will definitely make women commit equal amounts of violent crime, especially as a result of the philosophy of equal rights.
Adam House

Speaking about preparing for terror, Dr. Bjork wrote, “A large part of the answer lies in a wise use of political and psychological realities.” When our current president, George Bush leaves office in a few months, let us hope that Obama does not become president because his political and psychological realities are not in alignment with reality. After all, he wants to embrace the very people who want to kill us. Is that preparation?
Earl Blumenthal
Cleveland, Ohio
Dr.Svensson Bjork, when you speak of consequence management, are you saying that we must prepare for that instead of prevention? If my recollection and training are correct, I believe that consequence management is “cleaning-up” after something bad has happened. Why not train to prevent us from having to “clean-up” after something bad has happened?
Donna Spears
Los Angeles, CA
Mr. George Torres is eating craw now that Obama has been nominated to be the next president and his Clinton candidate bit the dust. All of that crap that you wrote about Obama served only to garner more support for him rather than hurt him. Are you sorry that you did so now, George?
Susan Cho
Santa Clara, CA
George, George, George, what are you going to do when Obama is sworn in as president of the United States and remain in office for eight years? It is going to happen you know. You are an angry and bitter man and you need to relax or else you will have a hear attack in January, 2009.
Phyllis Grow
Arkansas
Ljosdal, you used to write about “fun stuff” but your recent articles seem to be melancholic. I know you can do better than that unless if there is an underlying issue, forgive me.
Rhonda Clare
Vancouver, BC
Ljosdal, quoting someone said “growth can come in some unexpected moments, “in death and in grief.” What if I said poppycock? I lost my wife and two years later, lost my only child. I have only seen “growth” in one area…bitterness. You and the person quoted are incorrect. Try again.
Randolph Archibald

I just learned something about President Harrison. He had to have been a democrat to be that foolish to stand outside in the cold and talk for so long that he caught pneumonia and died. I hope that Obama goes to Alaska to campaign and stand outside for several hours to give a speech
